- The current monarch is Queen Margrethe II. She is the Queen of Denmark since 1972
- The monarchy can be traced back to Gorm The Old in the year 958.
- The direct line of Denmark ended in 1448, then the House of Oldenborg ascended the line and since 1863, the reigning monarch is member of the House of Glücksborg .
- The Danish Royal House has relations all over Europe. For example the Swedish King Carl Gustaf and Queen Margrethe are first cousins (Margrethe´s mother was born as a Princess of Sweden)
- Since 1953 it´s allowed for women to ascend the throne (King Frederik IX only has daughters so they changed the law)
