  1. The current monarch is Queen Margrethe II. She is the Queen of Denmark since 1972
  2. The monarchy can be traced back to Gorm The Old in the year 958.
  3. The direct line of Denmark ended in 1448, then the House of Oldenborg ascended the line and since 1863, the reigning monarch is member of the House of Glücksborg .
  4. The Danish Royal House has relations all over Europe. For example the Swedish King Carl Gustaf and Queen Margrethe are first cousins (Margrethe´s mother was born as a Princess of Sweden)
  5. Since 1953 it´s allowed for women to ascend the throne (King Frederik IX only has daughters so they changed the law)
